Manufacturing warehouse lighting for Carpenter Ltd, Glossop

Carpenter Ltd, part of the world’s largest manufacturer of comfort cushioning, needed lighting for a new warehouse extension at its Glossop site. Ricoman supplied the full luminaire schedule to specification.

Clancy Consulting in Birmingham specified the extension, and Staffordshire Plumbing and Heating Ltd carried out the electrical installation.

The lighting requirement

Manufacturing warehouses are demanding spaces to light. Racking blocks and redirects light, mounting heights are high, and the lighting runs long hours across shift patterns, so running cost and lamp life matter as much as light level. The scheme also needed emergency provision throughout to support BS 5266 compliance.

The manufacturing warehouse lighting scheme

We specified Canopus high bay throughout, with DALI dimming, presence detection and integral emergency. 37 fittings went in across phase two.

DALI and presence detection do the heavy lifting on running cost. Lighting dims or switches off in aisles that aren’t in use, then comes up as soon as someone enters, so the warehouse is never lit at full output in empty zones. Over a two-shift operation that adds up.

Canopus carries a choice of optics, which matters in racked areas where a narrow beam gets light down to floor level between the racks rather than spilling onto the tops of the pallets. Our multi-purpose high bay and low bay luminaire has been used across a number of warehouse and industrial projects, and it carries a 7 year warranty, which matters where high efficacy and long life are crucial.
