Betfred Group Headquarters Refurbishment

Lighting a legacy: A bold new home for Betfred
Spanning over 50,000 sq ft and accommodating more than 450 employees, Betfred’s newly refurbished headquarters marks a striking new chapter for the Salford-born business. Located in Birchwood, this modern workspace needed to reflect Betfred’s growth, values, and bold identity, while paying homage to its rich local heritage.
Ricoman was appointed as principal lighting designer and supplier after a competitive bidding process. Working in close collaboration with Betfred, we delivered a concept-led lighting scheme that celebrates the brand’s journey, character, and vision for the future.
The space is completely different, it’s unrecognisable. It is used in a whole new way, people want to get away from their desks and utilise the project spaces, meeting rooms and collaborative areas. It is great to see a new way of working.Helen Haworth, Senior Project Manager
A design inspired by heritage and innovation
The lighting concept was rooted in Betfred’s founding story. From its beginnings in a single shop on a small street in Ordsall, Salford, to becoming a nationwide name in the betting industry, the brand’s trajectory is defined by innovation, integrity, and community engagement. We took inspiration from local landmark Ordsall Hall—an iconic 15th-century manor house—to inform the blend of historical reverence and contemporary design. The use of bold geometry, flowing curves, and rigid lines throughout the lighting design subtly symbolises Betfred’s values: Curves represent innovation and community, symbolising flow, adaptability, and progress. Straight lines reflect integrity, standing for consistency, ethics, and strong foundations. Key lighting features Reception & Entrance A series of inward and downward lighting rings, suspended at varying heights, create a welcoming and immersive entry. The ringed forms nod to Betfred’s adaptability and innovation while establishing a striking first impression. Immersion Tunnel This dynamic transitional space features Casambi-controlled, pixel-addressable LED strips aligned with Betfred’s brand colours. As visitors move through, they’re taken on a visual journey that celebrates the company’s history and energy. Astrowave Feature Suspended above the central staircase, the Astrowave is a standout sculptural piece. Bold, quirky, and unique, it injects personality into the space and reflects Betfred’s spirited culture. Office & Work Zones The main office area features UGR-controlled aperture fittings recessed into metal ceiling tiles, balancing performance with comfort. This design minimises screen glare—a key requirement given the high number of display monitors in use. Breakout & Collaborative Areas Spaces such as the canteen, lounges, and presentation areas use a playful mix of suspended luminaires, LED strips, and Endor spotlights with honeycomb diffusers to create comfortable, engaging environments. Lighting here is designed to enhance mood, boost creativity, and support wellbeing. Meeting Pods & Booths Mood lighting is achieved using suspended Estrella Pro Round Aperture luminaires, offering soft illumination for focused, informal discussions.
